Routine Check-up

Regular dental check-ups are important to ensure the health of your teeth and gums. We carefully examine your mouth, clean your teeth, and sometimes take X-rays to detect early signs of problems. With regular check-ups, we can help prevent tooth decay and monitor the overall health of your mouth, while also providing personalized advice to keep your teeth healthy.

What happens during the appointment?

When you come for a check-up, we start by asking if you have noticed any discomfort or changes in your mouth or teeth since your last visit. It is also important for the dentist to know if there have been any changes in your general health, if you are taking new medications, or if you are undergoing medical treatment for an illness. We thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, oral mucosa, and oral cavity. Often, two or more X-rays are taken to see areas that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Teeth are cleaned and polished, and sometimes fluoride varnish is applied, usually to children but occasionally to adults if decay risk is high. We also give you good oral hygiene advice tailored to help you keep your teeth and gums healthy between visits. If anything is found that needs treatment or monitoring, you will receive detailed information about it. You can get a cost estimate if you need repairs or other dental treatments.

How often do you need to come for regular check-ups?

For most people, it is sufficient to come once a year. Some need to come more often, for example, if they develop a lot of tartar or if early tooth decay needs monitoring. Children in the tooth-changing age need more frequent visits to monitor tooth development, and sometimes adult molars need to be sealed soon after they erupt.

Those with very healthy mouths who produce little tartar may come less frequently, some every two years.

Your dentist will assess, together with you, what is appropriate in your case. We always book your next check-up when you come in to ensure good service. We remind you about the appointment one week in advance, and you can reschedule if the time is not convenient.

How much does a regular check-up cost?

The cost varies depending on what is done. Examination, X-rays, and teeth cleaning are the most common charges. The fee for X-rays depends on the number of images taken, and cleaning costs vary depending on how extensive it is. You can see examples of prices in our price list. Health insurance covers children aged 0-18 except for a 3500 ISK visit fee per 12-month period. Insurance also contributes to costs for the elderly and disabled.

Do you need a dental examination?

The first examination by the dentist can be more extensive than a regular check-up. Once you have had your initial examination and completed the recommended treatment, you can then come for regular check-ups as often as the dentist recommends and you both agree on.

We welcome new clients for examinations and emphasize regular check-ups thereafter.

We look forward to seeing you!
